Newbee Overview
Newbee is one of China’s most successful esports organizations, mainly known for their fantastic achievements in Dota 2 but who was also active in Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm and even Starcraft.
Newbee was founded in 2014 in Shanghai by famous Dota player Zhang “Xiao8” Ning. The initial roster was made up from Xiao8, Mu, Hao, KingJ and ZSMJ and the organization managed to attract the interest of billionaire Wang “Niuwa” Yue.
With plenty of resources at their disposal, it didn’t take long for the team to bond and achieve its greatest performance so far – reaching the finals and ultimately, winning the The International 2014. Their story at the TI 2014 can be offered as an example for the typical tale of the underdog.
After earning a direct invite to Dota 2’s greatest esports tournament, Newbee was almost eliminated from the Group Stage. After one of the greatest rebounds in esports history, Newbee managed to reach the Grand Final and ultimately defeat Vici Gaming to take home the $5 million first prize. Since then, Newbee reach the TI finals one more time – in 2017, but were defeated by Team Liquid. In 2019, Newbee’s Dota 2 team only managed to win one major tournament – the World Cyber Games 2019.
