Singles bets are esports wagers placed on an individual matches or players, or on particular match outcomes.
These bets represent the baseline on which all the other types of wagering (Combinations, Multiples/System) are built.
When you place a singles bet, you aim to predict a single specific outcome while not depending on other wagers to also be accurate.
For instance, Astralis is playing Ninja in Pyjamas during the IEM Katowice CSGO tournament. You predict Astralis has way better chances to win so you place a bet of €10 on them at odds of 1.90. If they win, your return will be €19. This is a singles bet. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean you cannot place multiple single bets on the same bet slip.
If you went through our course that covered the types of esports bets recommended to new players, you need to know that you can also place singles bets on totals / over or under, champions kills or any other match outcome the sports book might offer.
In the image below, we have selected a match between Gen G. and Afreeca Freecs from the League of Legends Champions Korea league. Because we considered Gen G. as favourites and set to dominate the match we placed several singles bets on them including: Match Winner, various Champions Kills-related bets and Map bets.
We placed a €1 bet on each outcome for a total of €7 and a potential payout of €18.76 which we will receive if all our predictions would be accurate.
This doesn’t mean though that all the wagers have to be correct – when placing singles bets, you can cash out whenever one of the matches is over and you guessed it correctly.
In the situation above, we’ve also placed a bet on Both Teams To Destroy an Inhibitor – which although very plausible it has a lower probability. Nevertheless, even if this particular wager is not correct, it will not influence in any way the others.
Singles bets are THE recommended way to go for any bettor, regardless how knowledgeable or experienced they are. If anyone recommends you otherwise, they don’t have your best interest at heart.
Singles bets have very low returns – especially when it comes to betting on favourites – but they have a higher winning percentage on the long term than Combinations or Multiples.
And in case you didn’t know, in betting you should always choose higher probability of outcome rather than higher returns.
Pros:
High probability of winning as potential returns do not depend on multiple outcomes to materialize.
Cons:
Low returns unless the bettor places high wagers or picks high odds.
