Global Starcraft II League (GSL) 2022 Overview
The Global StarCraft II League (or GSL 2022) is a large tournament in South Korea. It holds multiple events during a year, and it started in 2010. Global StarCraft II League was the first step towards a professional league in South Korea for StarCraft II scene.
It is organizes by AfreecaTV and ESL and the sponsor are: LG Ultra and Hot6ix. The 9 maps that players will use are Berlingrad, Blackburn, Curious Minds, Golden Wall, Glittering Ashes, Hardwire, Nautilus II, Pride of Altaris, Roughneck.

Format
Global StarCraft II League has 2 Group Stages, one Round of 6 and Playoffs.
Group Stages
In the Group Stage 1 all matches are Bo3 and have a Dual Tournament Format. The top 2 players of each group advance to Group Stage 2.
The Group Stage 2 has a Round Robin format and all the matches are Bo3, except in case of a tie. The tiebreaker match is a Bo1*.
The first placed player of each group advances to the Playoffs. The players that finished on 2nd or 3rd place advance to the Round of 6.
*Ties are broken in the following order:
- Overall match difference
- Overall games difference
- Head to head
- Match wins amassed between the tied participants (‘Mini-League’)
- Map difference between the tied participants (‘Mini-League’)
- Tiebreaker match with Bo1 format
- Coin toss
Round of 6
Second placed players play against each other and the winner advances to the Playoffs. The 3rd placed players play versus each other, but the loser gets out of the competition.
The loser of the 2nd place and the winner of the 3rd place play against each other to advance to the Playoffs.
Playoffs
Playoffs and Round of 6 have Bo5 matches. The Playoffs are a single-elimination bracket. The Grand Finals will be played in a Bo7 format. The players who get to the semifinals are seeded for the Season 2 of GSL 2022. The top 6 players get seeded in the upcoming ESL Pro Tour 2022-23 Masters Valencia.The winner gets a spot at IEM Katowice 2023 and $30,000.
Prize Pool
The total prize pool for this event is $60,000. The first placed player gets half of the prize. Second place $12,000 and 33rd-4th $9000 each.
Who is participating in GSL 2022 Season 1
For Season 1 we have teams such as Team NV, Freecs, Dragon Phoenix Gaming, Alpha X, Shopify Rebellion, Onsyde Gaming, Team GP, KaiZi Gaming and PREP eSPORTS.
The participating players are: Trap, Dark, Maru, Ryung, Creator, Rogue, and many others.
As Previous Winners, in 2021, Rogue won Season 1, Dark won Season 2, and Cure – Season 3.
