PGL Major Antwerp 2022 Overview
One of the biggest and most expected CSGO tournaments, PGL Major Antwerp 2022, is happening in May. The prize pool of $1,000,000 will bring 24 teams to Antwerps Sportpaleis Venue in Belgium. Some of this year CSGO event‘s sponsors are GG.BET, Bitget and Secretlab.
The Major has 3 stages and gives the winner the ticket to win the BLAST Premier World Final.
Schedule
- Challengers Stage: May 9th – 12th, 2022
- Legends Stage: May 14th – 17th, 2022
- Champions Stage: May 19th – 22nd, 2022
Format
The Challengers Stage
16 teams play in a Swiss System format. The Swiss system is similar to a Round-Robin format. Every team will play every match they have without elimination in the process. The team with the highest number of points at the end of the stage is the winner. All the matches are Bo1 except the elimination and advancement, those are Bo3.
The bottom 8 teams leave the competition and the other 8 teams advance to the Legends Stage.
The Legends Stage
The Legends stage has the same Swiss format and matches rules as the Challengers Stage. Here the 8 teams meet other 8 teams, so the total number is still 16 playing teams.
The Buchholz system & initial seeds are used to seed matches. The bottom 8 teams leave the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 as well.
The Champions Stage
The Champions Stage is a Single-Elimination bracket with Bo3 matches.
Teams get seeded using final rankings from The Legends Stage.
Prize Pool
The total prize pool for the event is $1,000,000. The first placed team gets half of the total prize pool and a ticket to the World Final + 4000 BLAST Premier points. Second placed team gets $150,000 and 3rd-4th $70,000.
Teams participating in PGL Major Antwerp 2022
The teams participating at PGL Major Antwerp 2022 are also grouped in categories. In the Legends group we’ll see teams such as: FaZe, Navi, Copenhagen Flame, Cloud9. Astralis, Vitality, MIBR, and G2 are some of the Challengers. Liquid, Renegades, Outsider, and Team Spirit are some of the Contenders.
Previous Winners
Natus Vincere won PGL Major Stockholm 2021, and Gambit won the PGL Major Kraków 2017.
